Herbert Hoover Works On Promoting Hoover Commission Recommendations to Reorganize the Federal Government Appointed by President Harry Truman to Make The Federal Government More Efficient
This 1949 letter concerns the work of the Hoover Commission on Organization of the Executive Branch of the Government, which President Harry Truman appointed Herbert Hoover to head. This letter was written in 1949 the year the Commission made its recommendations and the letter concerns the Commission's recommendations on Transportation and Hoover suggests that the addressee, Wayne W. Light, lobby Congress, The President and the Secretary of Commerce on behalf of the recommendations. The Truman library web site has some relevant letters pictured below that show that the Transportation recommendations of the Hoover Commission had been the subject of correspondence between Herbert Hoover and President Truman earlier that same month. Hoover at the time was living at the Waldorf hotel in New York City, which is reflected in the letterhead of our letter as well as the one to President Truman shown below.
The letter from Hoover to Light on July 7, 1949 measures 10 1/2 by 7 1/8 and is nice condition with a staple hole in the top right corner and some light age toning. The picture above is slightly cropped to eliminate the large margins. It's a nice little bit of history on a topic in which a former Republican President worked well with a sitting Democrat President. Price: $275
