This original 1891 Sir Leslie Ward "Spy" print from Vanity Fair is of Colonel Herbert Eaton in his uniform with sword, spurs and riding crop with the stiff bearing of a proper officer. The contemporary biography of Colonel Eaton by Jehu Junior provided with the print explain the origin of his nickname and concludes with his reason for still being in uniform:
