Golfer John Ball, Jr., First Amateur To Win The British Open! Original 1892 Vanity Fair Framed Print
This rare and popular original Vanity Fair print pictures the first amateur to win the British Open golf tournament, John Ball, Jr. Ball won the British Open in 1890 at the Prestwick Club, Ayrshire, Scotland with a score of 164. John Ball was also the first golfer to win the Open who was not from Scotland. This print comes nicely framed and matted with a copy of the original description on the back of the frame, which notes that Ball twice was the British amateur champion and "greatest triumph of all - once carried off the Open Championship; a feat which has yet been achieved by no other amateur." The last amateur to win the Open was the celebrated American Bobby Jones in 1930 when he won the Grand Slam of major golf tournaments.
A wonderful print and a perfect gift for the golfer who has everything. There are a lot of golf prints but few original prints from 1892 that picture the first British Open amateur champion. Price: $450
