Famous Jockey

This is an original 1891 Vanity Fair print by Sir Leslie Ward (signed as "Spy") of the famous jockey Captain Edward Rodney Owen, known as "Roddy."  It is an elegant looking print of a gentleman jockey.

The biography by Jehu Junior published with the print, a copy of which is included,  notes his most recent accomplishment after returning from military service in India:

Seven years ago he came back and rode Kilworth to victory in the Great Sandown Steeplechase, though his horse had all the regiment's money on him. Since then he has climbed steadily up the gentleman riders' tree, on the topmost bough of which he no keeps a graceful seat, untouched by an rival.

The racehorse Roddy Owen was later named after him that won the 1959 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

This print comes already matted to a standard 16 x 20" frame size so it will be easy and inexpensive to frame and is enclosed in a protective plastic sleeve.
