1874 Winslow Homer Matted Wood Engraving "SEESAW-GLOUCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS" One of the "masterpieces of his work in the engraving field."
This classic Winslow Homer was done at the apex of his artistry in engraving from the famous Gloucester series of engravings. The author of "Winslow Homer's Magazine Engravings," Philip C. Beam, notes that prior to his move to Prout's Neck, Maine "an accent on carefree youth had always been prominent in Homer's work and he brought it to a climax in the mid-seventies with his 'children's series.' The best known of these are also masterpieces of his work in the engraving field" and Beam includes in this category the print offered here, "the SeeSaw-Gloucester." Below is a close-up of this fine print.
Below is the print as matted in a plastic sleeve. The print is in very nice condition and the mat will pop into a standard size 16 x 20 inch frame. It would look great on anyone's wall. The Old Print Shop has this masterpiece listed at $500 unmatted, but you get it matted for Ashford, CT prices. Price: $375 |
